Wildlife lovers from across Northwest Indiana were called upon to help Humane Indiana, and a winner was chosen.

March 2021

Valparaiso, IN… Wildlife lovers from across Northwest Indiana were called upon to help Humane Indiana name their upcoming wildlife newsletter that will give a behind-the-scenes look at Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Valparaiso, IN.

Upon careful selection, the 80-year-old nonprofit organization chose The Wild Side, submitted by JoAnne Baranowski of Highland, IN. JoAnne won four tickets to Humane Indiana’s fall event, Festival of the Owls, along with other great Humane Indiana gifts.

“We had so many wonderful ideas submitted, but we absolutely loved JoAnne’s entry,'' says Nicole Harmon, director of Humane Indiana Wildlife. “It was fun, playful, and covered the wild and all-encompassing work we do for thousands of injured or orphaned wildlife native to Indiana.”

Last year, nearly 3,000 native wild animals found their way to Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, a 32% increase in admissions over 2019. Animal patients, coming from 103 different cities in Indiana, have ended up with Humane Indiana Wildlife because they have been injured, orphaned, or have fallen ill. Some animals require veterinary visits, treatments, and medication, and all require species-specific daily food until their health is restored and it’s safe for them to be released back to their natural environment. Humane Indiana Wildlife also provides learning opportunities for all ages, along with camps throughout the year for school-aged children.
