Humane Indiana completes major renovation to Shelter and Adoption Center.
April 2021
Humane Indiana has recently completed a major renovation to the Humane Indiana Shelter and Adoption Center. To mark the occasion, on May 26, 2021 at noon, the Munster Chamber of Commerce will honor the grand reopening of the Shelter with a ribbon-cutting celebration.
With new and bigger kennels that exceed national standards, upgrades to the facilities are helping shelter dogs to be more comfortable and less stressed. These kennels give the dogs clean, designated spaces for sleeping, playing, and eating and allow Humane Indiana staff and volunteers to comfortably provide food and enrichment activities, beyond the time the canines spend exercising outside. Also added are new acoustic ceiling tiles, reducing the sound and echoes made when dogs bark.
For the cats is a new Community Cat Colony room for like-minded cats to play and socialize, along with an expanded cat showcase that gives the felines more space to curl up in their beds, eat a nutritious meal, and enjoy enrichment activities.
“We are grateful for the generous support of our donors and volunteers for all of the time and effort they put into this renovation. This major remodel directly impacts the cats and dogs who are in need of a home and is only possible because of the commitment of our supporters,” says Brian Fitzpatrick, CEO of Humane Indiana.
Upgrades also completed in the renovation include bright, updated signage, a brand-new paint job, and epoxy floors that are easier to clean and maintain for many years to come. All upgrades meet or exceed the Association of Shelter Veterinarian's Guidelines for improving community animal health and well-being.
“In the process of the renovation, we've made the adoption experience more shelter pet-friendly, so it's easier than ever to find your forever friend,” says Jessica Petalas, director of Humane Indiana Shelter. Humane Indiana invites the community to see the new upgrades to the Shelter throughout the month of May and to visit the great shelter pets who are in need of a place to call home.
