Humane Indiana hosts Paws in the Park Festival and Walk in Honor of Local Shelter Pets. 

Going ‘Retro’ in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Paws in the Park  

NORTHWEST INDIANA – August 2023 – It is Retro! Take a blast to the past and join Humane Indiana from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. for the 30th anniversary of Paws in the Park Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Community Park in Munster. Attendees can support local shelter pets and enjoy a day of festivities, food, and fun for the entire family. The event will take place, rain, or shine. Proceeds benefit the Humane Indiana Shelter and Adoption Center, Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center, and the Estelle Marcus Clinic.  

Humane Indiana invites guests and pets to participate in the walk, shop the vast, pet-friendly market, craft show, and vendor fair, enjoy various food trucks, plus live music, and entertainment along with other activities, such as the Munster Fire Department Touch-a-Truck and the Doggie Pool Party. Registration for the one-mile pet-friendly walk and the ‘WestMunster’ Doggie Fashion Show — a ‘90s-themed fashion show—is now open.  

Walk registration is $25 and includes a goody bag and a new finisher trophy for the dogs. Check-in begins at 9 a.m.; walk step-off starts at 10 a.m. Early bird registration for the craft and vendor fair is now open, with limited vendor spaces. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  

  • 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. – Beer Garden, courtesy of 3 Floyds Brewing. Beer is available for purchase with a valid ID; guests must be 21 and over to enter, and dogs are welcome! The Oscar Mayer Frankmobile will also make a special appearance. 

  • 9 a.m. – Event and Walk Check-in Opens 

  • 9:15 a.m. – NEW! Walking Team Photos & ’90s Costume Contest  

  • 10 a.m. – Paws in the Park 1-mile Dog-Friendly Walk – NEW ROUTE! Trophies for the dogs!  

  • 11 a.m. – NEW! Humane Indiana Wildlife Presentation: Dogs Co-existing with Wildlife  

  • Noon – WestMunster ’90s Fashion Show for Doggies  

  • 1 p.m. – Raffle and Drawings for Prizes!
